Graduate Program

  In 1953, Zhejiang University of Technology was established in the picturesque city, Hang Zhou. It is a key comprehensive university in Zhejiang province, which offers mainly engineering programs, but also offers programs like arts, science, law, economics, medicine, management, education and so on. With the aim of strengthening management of disciplines, academic degrees and graduate students' education, Graduate School of ZJUT was founded in 2003. It is an administrative organ, for graduate students' general affairs, such as enrollment, registration, education, ethic education, management of academic degrees and disciplinary construction.
  With the approval of former State Education Commission, ZJUT began to enroll graduate students since 1979. In 1998, it was authorized to confer doctor's degrees. Subsequently, it was entitled to grant master's degree for applicants of similar backgrounds, in-service students, students of recommendation and doctor's degree in advance for excellent students. Through 20 years' of experience and practice since the reform and open-up policy, work of graduate students' education has achieved a lot, forming an integrated educational system which includes doctor's degree, master's degree, professional degrees and master's degrees for applicants of the similar backgrounds. At present, it offers 14 doctoral programs and 71 master degree programs. There are about 2,300 graduate students at school and 65 tutors for doctoral students, 428 supervisors for graduate students.
ZJUT always puts the policy of "bringing up talents of high quality and originality" on the first place and attaches great importance to the improvement of students’ comprehensive quality. It has worked out a series of regulations and policies, concerning the reform of enrollment, the modification of graduate students’ academic papers and the reinforcement of educational management. As a result, the quality of graduate students’ education sees steady growth.
   In order to keep pace with the economic development of Zhejiang province and meet the need of social development, ZJUT has been trying to build itself into a base for developing talents of advanced engineering technology as well as a base for the research and exploration of engineering science and technology in Zhejiang province. Through years' of painstaking efforts, the disciplinary construction has yielded lots of achievements. Among all the important disciplines, seven have been recognized and supported by the provincial government, namely Industrial Catalysis, Applied Chemistry, Electromechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Technology & Furniture and Pharmacy Technological Innovation Base. It owns two important provincial research bases for human and social science——International Trade and Chinese Ancient Literature. It has covered 10 professional subjects, namely, Engineering, Science, Law, Arts, Economics, Education, Management, Medicine, Agriculture and Philosophy.
   In future, Graduate School of Zhejiang University of Technology will continue to make its effort, taking the innovative concept as the soul of graduate students' education and the improvement of educational quality as the focus, to accelerate the disciplinary construction and to strive for the goal of building the school into a renowned multiple-disciplinary, research and teaching comprehensive school in China.
