  Bernard Gallios博士,法国国家科学研究中心(CNRS)研究员,“Structure and Functions of Biological Molecules”研究团队负责人。在法国波尔多第一大学取得物理学硕士和材料科学博士学位。早期的研究方向主要集中在一些材料组分的晶体结构和物理性质之间的关系方面,后转向生物大分子的结构和功能研究,开展了许多具有前瞻性和开创性的工作,并取得了有益的成果,先后在Nature、Science等国际顶级学术期刊上发表论文。主持了多个法国国家项目,在生物科学基础研究方面具有很高的国际影响力,是国际知名的生物工程专家。
    
  讲座摘要:
  The three-dimensional structure of a biomolecule defines not only its dimensions and its shape, but it also gives relevant information to understand its function and/or its activity. Our group focuses its research in this direction, using X-ray crystallography as the main technique of structural investigation. In this talk, we will give a rapid overview of the technique by emphasizing more particularly on the importance and difficulty to get a well diffracting crystal. Then, we will illustrate the relation between structure and function (or activity) through different examples resulting from our research work. The first one concerns ferritins, a family of proteins responsible for iron biodisponibility. The second one reports on the 3D structure determination and the catalytic mechanism of one of the enzymes of the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway: the dihydroflavonol reductase.
